Hematite Inc., a Tier 1 automotive supplier and manufacturer based in Ontario, Canada, is investing $18 million to build a 106,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the City of Englewood in Montgomery County, Ohio. The facility, which will employ 100 full-time workers within three years, is Hematite’s first in the United States and will serve as the company’s U.S. headquarters as it expands its presence in the United States.

Describing itself as a “green” company, Hematite started more than 30 years ago as a recycling business that diverted industrial waste from landfills. This green culture continues today as the company continues to find innovative applications for recycled material to treat the underbody of vehicles. Specifically, Hematite engineers and manufactures acoustics, air and water management components using recycled scrap materials.

Hematite decided to open a manufacturing facility in the United States to place the company closer to its customers, including FCA, VW, Toyota, Ford and Honda. Company executives began looking for a location in the Midwest. They chose Englewood over other locations because of its proximity to customers.

"Our expansion into the United States is a natural evolution for our company as we need to be closer to our customers,” said John Pavanel, president of Hematite. “We look forward to continuing our many great years of service for customers such as FCA, VW, Toyota, Ford and Honda from our Englewood, Ohio facility."

Montgomery County Economic Development, the City of Englewood, the Dayton Development Coalition, JobsOhio and the Dayton-Montgomery County Port Authority worked together to help Hematite choose the location in Englewood.

The company officially broke ground in May of 2017 with a scheduled completion date of November and begin production in the first quarter of 2018
