Virtual sandbox teaches kids about watershed

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) - There's a colorful new tool being used to teach kids about our watershed here in the Miami Valley.
It may look like a regular sandbox but turn off the lights, add a little technology and it becomes a teaching tool.
With their hands in the sand these 10 year olds aren't goofing around - there's a purpose to their play.
"I'm learning how the water will go down in the valley and slowly connect with another river," Jackson Moore, fourth grader.
This virtual reality sandbox was showcased at a conference and became a dream for the Habitat Environmental Center.
"We thought we have to have one," Kerri Miles, Environmental Education Supervisor.
A grant from the Kettering Community Foundation made the software possible and now bright reds and blues fill the room.
