Through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the U.S. Treasury issued Montgomery County $92M in funding to provide financial relief to individuals and businesses experiencing hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the summer, grants from this funding were launched for small businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions, and mortgage/rent/utility assistance. Applications for these grants are ongoing (some deadlines are approaching) and can be found here.

The newest round of grants is directed at helping healthcare institutions, daycares and preschools, and agriculture businesses.

Healthcare Institutions

Montgomery County has allocated $10M from federal CARES Act funds to aid healthcare institutions. These grants are meant to help Montgomery County hospitals, medical centers, health clinics, and other health service providers that incurred or anticipate additional expenses related to the pandemic. Eligible expenses for reimbursement can include mortgage or rent, utilities, and costs related to immunizations, coronavirus (tiered) testing and contact tracing, PPE supplies, technology, and other public health operating expenses.

“This pandemic has emphasized how important our healthcare institutions truly are,” said Judy Dodge, Montgomery County Commission President. “Throughout this public health crisis, every provider has been working over and above expectations to fight COVID-19. This grant program will provide some financial assistance to help them continue to serve our communities in the continuing fight.”

To qualify for the healthcare grant program, applicants must:

  • Be a healthcare provider physically located in Montgomery County, Ohio.
  • Serve or benefit individuals living in Montgomery County, Ohio.
  • Meet program technical requirements, including the ability to provide financial records to support the grant application and be able to track and report the spending of grant funds.

Applications are being accepted through the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association. These online applications are available at http://gdaha.org/montgomery-county-cares-healthcare-grant/

Adult Daycares, Child Daycares, and Preschools

Montgomery County has allocated $5M from federal CARES Act funds to help daycares and preschools. Grants of up to $30K can be used to cover expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic — either incurred or anticipated — such as mortgage or rent costs, utilities, and costs related to nutritional programs, PPE and supplies, and technology.

“The past several months put a lot of strain on our daycares and preschools,” said Marvene Mitchell-Cook, Director of the Office of CARES Act. “I’d like to thank our County Commissioners for recognizing this need and approving this program.”

To qualify for the daycare/preschool grant program, applicants must:

  • Be licensed by the State of Ohio.
  • Be physically located in Montgomery County, Ohio.
  • Serve or benefit individuals living in Montgomery County, Ohio.

Agricultural Businesses

Montgomery County has allocated $5M from federal CARES Act funds to help the agriculture industry. Grants of up to $100K can be used to cover expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic — either incurred or anticipated — such as mortgage or rent, business insurance, PPE and supplies, technology, utility costs, or other operating expenses.

“Our farmers in Montgomery County work hard to supply food for our region,” said Dodge. “This pandemic has affected our agriculture industry, just as it has every other part of our lives and our economy. Because our farm operators are providing this basic human need through the pandemic, we wanted to make relief funds available, specifically to this industry.”

To qualify for the agriculture grant program, applicants must:

  • Be physically located in Montgomery County, Ohio.
  • Serve or benefit individuals living in Montgomery County, Ohio.
  • Meet program technical requirements, including the ability to provide financial records to support the grant application and be able to track and report the spending of grant funds.
