Clark State Community College is proposing a $5.9 million renovation project to transform the Brinkman Educational Center into a Center for Workforce Development.

The center is meant to serve the training needs of local and regional employers, according to a funding application from the college. It will be equipped with "state-of-the-art" presentation technology, including video conferencing capabilities and high-speed internet access.

Repurposing the building into a workforce development center will bring more businesses to downtown Springfield, and will encourage new businesses to locate to the area, a Clark State official said.

The college also anticipates that more than 1,000 new jobs will be created if the project is successful.
